Iberia Business Class Sustainable Amenity Kit (Kaelis)

Unveiling Iberia’s Sustainable Amenity Kits and its Full Circular Model

Iberia introduced the latest sustainable amenity kits, designed by Teresa Helbig, drawing inspiration from the airline’s uniforms created by the Spanish designer. This eco-conscious accessories set to be available in Business Class on long-haul flights, showcases a design palette incorporating blue, red and yellow hues. Navy blue symbolises balance, while red and yellow are Iberia’s corporate colours.

Manufactured by Kaelis, these rPET pouches are a result of recycling 7.5 million 550ml plastic bottles, culminating in significant water savings totalling 1.2 million litres during production and a remarkable 70% reduction in energy emissions.

Crafted with a commitment to sustainability, these amenity kits feature new vegan and natural cosmetic products, meticulously sourced and produced in Spain by Uvas Frescas using wine waste provided by the Spanish Wine Group ARAEX, from the same wine served aboard Iberia’s flights. The cosmetic products also boast packaging made from sugarcane with I’m Green™ certification.

Furthermore, the packing of the cosmetics into the pouch is entrusted to Envera, an Association of Iberia employees who are parents of individuals with disabilities. This initiative employs over 400 individuals with diverse functional abilities.

To close the loop, Iberia plans to offer the full kit or individual elements, so passengers only take what they need, reducing the waste left onboard. Although, anything left behind will be recycled if its used.

Inclusions within the Business Class kit extend beyond cosmetics, encompassing items such as compression socks, an eye mask, toothbrush and toothpaste, earplugs, lip balm and hand cream.

Overall, this collaborative effort showcases an approach to business practices combining full circularity, environmental consciousness, sustainable sourcing and social responsibility. It is definitely a model that aligns well with the growing awareness and demand for sustainable products and it is the first of its kind to offer this.
