In support of LATAM’s goal to eliminate 100% of single-use plastics used in its operations by 2023, LATAM has replaced plastic lids with sugarcane bagasse lids to cover all business class main courses and side dishes. Sugarcane bagasse lids are made from certified post manufactured waste from processed sugarcane plants.
There is zero waste in the production/manufacturing process and it removes bagasse waste from landfills and/or prevents it from being burned. In addition to looking naturally elegant, sugarcane bagasse lids are 100% biodegradable and compostable. This initiatives is part of LATAM’s sustainability strategy, goals of which include achieving zero waste to landfill by 2027, offsetting 50% of domestic emissions by 2030, and reaching carbon neutrality by 2050.
