Flymingo Connect

The perfect balance of power and flexibility, in compact and elegant form

Airlines are generating more data than ever before — and the future looks even more connected, with connectivity and sensors across the aircraft. To get the most out of this data, more and more needs to be processed: in real time, on the aircraft.

Flymingo Connect combines a revolutionary embedded edge computing data server, industry-leading double-module wireless access points, and a dedicated processor for network management wireless platform. Beyond best-in-class direct passenger benefits of connectivity, entertainment and service, the innovative gateway design enables airlines to integrate the entire set of benefits from the Internet of Things (IoT).

For smaller aircraft the base Flymingo Connect serves 150 connections, while optional modular wireless access points enable seamless expansion through to high density widebodies.

Both Flymingo Connect server and the WAP are smaller than a coffee table book and lighter than a handbag:

Server size:

  • 252 mm width x 307 mm depth x 87 mm height
  • 9.92 inches width x 12.08 inches depth x 3.42 inches height
  • 5.2 kg / 11.5 lb

WAP size:

  • 252 mm width x 246 mm depth x 87 mm height
  • 9.92 inches width x 9.68 inches depth x 3.42 inches height
  • 3.9 kg / 8.6 lb

Unlike others, Flymingo Connect is inherently customisable, allowing airline customers to choose to install it behind the cabin ceiling panels, in the avionics bay or in the overhead bins.

Opening up the world of integration and the Internet of Things for airlines

Beyond the inherent passenger experience benefits of connectivity and streaming, Flymingo Connect’s inventive integration is a key enabler for airlines to reap the rewards of the digitalisation agenda, including:

  • apps: flight deck, cabin crew, maintenance, repair, manifest, passenger service, e-commerce, buy-on-board, at-seat-ordering
  • Internet of Things (IoT)-enabled cabin innovations: safety equipment checks, live bin fullness checks, connected trolleys, automated inventory, galley inserts
  • passenger service unit integration: lights, seats and environmental
  • full API integration with an unlimited number of other systems

Moment has developed a custom software solution for its launch customer (currently commercial-in-confidence) and is delighted to offer software customisation in partnership with airlines.

Beyond simple onboard boxes, with unique and powerful technology

Flymingo Connect is designed and made in France using elegantly balanced, reliable leading-edge technology, with a robust and stress-tested supply chain, including:

  • The perfect processor balancing power, performance and heat: Intel® Xeon® D1715TER 4-core CPU at 2.4GHz
  • Uunique dedicated network management processor: ARM NXP LS1088A 8-core CPU, 10Gbps internal link
  • 150-device connection capacity per server/WAP, 512-device total capacity, double Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) modules: 24GHz and 5GHz b/g/n/ac/ax 4×4 MU-MIMO
  • Capacious 8TB solid-state drive at the sweet spot of storage, price, power, capacity and heat — enough for 12,000 hours of content
  • Nearly limitless 6.1 Gbps wireless bandwidth — 1,220 Netflix streams at 1080p Full HD
  • Lower power consumption than a modern laptop charger: just 60–80W at 115 V AC/360-800 Hz, single-phase, with 200 msec hold-up
  • Open-source Linux OS, optical fiber connection

Double-module wireless access points and a dedicated processor for network management exceed the market needs, current connectivity requirements and entertainment performance demands of even today’s most cutting-edge passengers.
