At Virgin Atlantic, we believe everyone should feel confident to take on the world, no matter your gender identity, gender expression, race, sexuality, background, beliefs, or physical ability. We have a commitment to championing the individuality of our people and our customers, creating an environment of conscious inclusion, and enabling people to be their true selves at work and when travelling with us.
Fundamental to this is feeling comfortable expressing our unique individualities, including the way we choose to style ourselves and the clothes we choose to wear. This includes our decision to give our uniformed community the choice of whether to wear makeup or not regardless of gender identity, and more recently last year lifting restrictions on visible tattoos.
In late 2022 our new uniform policy was also introduced. Not everybody prefers to wear the ‘red’ or ‘burgundy’ uniform that corresponds to the gender assigned on their passport. As part of our new policy, uniform wearers who are LGBTQ+ and / or gender non-conforming will now be able to choose which uniform best represents how they identify. Our new uniform code gives our uniform community the freedom to choose which of our iconic uniforms, designed by the late Vivienne Westwood, best represents who they truly are.
Alongside our new uniform policy, we introduced a range of pronoun badges for all our people and customers to wear if they wish to – enabling everyone who works or flies with us to clearly communicate and be addressed by their correct pronouns.
